Obviously, There are a lot of students who have aspirations to study in their favourite colleges and the nation is not a limitation when it comes to studying abroad. Therefore, a common question arises what exams are required to study in Canada? Well, it is crucial to know which exams are the gateway to Canada and when do you need to apply and clear these exams.

There are indeed standardized tests that are the pre-requisites to entering Canada. These tests are both proficiency and aptitude-based tests based on colleges, Universities’ requirements. It is also important to know that there are different requirements for the score by the Canadian Embassy.

Canada Entrance/Proficiency Examination

IELTS Requirement for Canada:-

IELTS is one of the most preferred proficiency tests which is accepted by almost all colleges and universities. This is a globally recognized test and different universities have different score requirements. IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. It is both a computerized and paper-based exam. This exam as mentioned has four models and the Listening, Reading, and Writing modules are held on the same day in a single stretch without breaks. Talking about the speaking module, this test is conducted in 7 day time period belt before or after the LRW exam.

The IELTS Score is technically called as BAND score which has a range of up to 9 Band comprising of 4 modules which are Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The accepted score range varies from 5-to 9 from which 6.5 is recommended and no band should be less than a particular band.

Canada TOEFL Requirement:-

TOEFL-(Test of English as a Foreign Language) is another popular examination that is proficiency-based and this too comprises 4 similar modules just like IELTS which are Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking but the structure of the examination is different. Firstly, the score range of the TOEFL examination is 0-120 and all four modules are divided into 30 scores each.

The TOEFL-Ibt and TOEFL paper-based tests are available for the students and TOEFL-Ibt is an Internet-Based test given by the majority of students. Students can apply for this test at least 15 days before. The TOEFL paper-based Edition is also a new addition to the gamut of the TOEFL examination.

PTE requirement Canada:-

There is another exam required for Canadian study is PTE, which stands for the Pearson Test of English. Many universities and colleges in Canada accept PTE. This is also a better way to get your acceptance letter from a Canadian Institute.
The PTE test generally has no score. A PTE score of 51-63 is considered adequate. If the scores are higher then there are fair chances of students getting faster visa approval.

Academic Examinations for Canada

There are other examinations too you can look towards before seeking admission into Canadian University or Colleges.

GMAT assesses the dexterity and skills of MBA students and enthusiasts who aim to study Business or Management in Canada. This exam not only assesses your ability to speak English but your mathematical and reasoning skills.

Still, there are a lot of Canadian business schools, such as the Schulich School of Business, Ivey Business School, School of Management, and DeGroote Business School, that do not require the GMAT.

GRE -Graduate Record Examination – Canada:-

If you wish to pursue your MS, MA, it is recommended and you must take this examination.

The GRE is an Aptitude based test where students are tested on their verbal, mathematical, and reasoning skills. This is a 3-hour long examination with a total score of 340. The range of both Verbal and Quantitative portions is 140-170 and a score of 300 overall is preferred for University admissions.
A lot of Institutions consider GRE score submission even before applying to universities or colleges. Still, there are some institutions that have started waiving the GRE scores. Therefore you must submit your scores on GRE to the universities.

Is there a requirement for the GRE for MS in Canada?

For looking at English as competence, the majority of Canadian Institutes consider IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL as a preferred language examination. However, in cases of Master’s or MS’s, a GRE exam is required for Canady study.

SAT for Canada:-

SAT stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test. This is a test intended for school students who are pursuing their +2 and various Institutions require this test. This test also comprises both Verbal and Quantitative sections and this test is not that tough to attempt especially for Asian Students who generally have a strong mathematical background. This is a paper-based test with a total score of 1600.

The syllabus of SAT has also been updated as the essay writing section is now omitted and students only need to attempt the Verbal and Quantitative sections.

Law School Admission Test (LSAT) Canada:-

If you are looking forward to applying to a Law School then a standardized test is a requirement. LSAT examines the reading and speaking expertise.

Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) Canada

To analyze and examine students’ analytical, critical, ideas of physical and biological sciences abilities, and the ability to reason verbally. MCAT is an Individual computerized test.
